Test majorly perform to evaluate the ultimate bearing capacity of soil beneath the foundation. The outcomes include ultimate bearing capacity with the expected settlement of foundation/footing.
The test result reflects the character of the soil located with a depth twice the width of the bearing plate. A circular or square mild steel plate of size three times the maximum size of particles in the soil is used as a bearing plate. A gravity loading platform, reaction loading platform, or Loading truss platform is used as a reaction frame. The load is given with the help of a hydraulic jack placed above the plate. The stress was applied in five equal intervals and settlement was recorded as per IS 1888: 1982 guidelines.
