Geotechnical Investigation

Geotechnical Investigation
Soil investigation is a vital part of geotechnical engineering, carried out before construction to understand the subsurface conditions. It provides essential data for safe, economical, and sustainable foundation design
Key Services Include
Borehole Drilling & Sampling
Drilling boreholes to collect disturbed and undisturbed soil/rock samples for testing. Drilling was carried out using both Cylax and Hydraulic machines. The progress with the Cylax machine was slower compared to the Hydraulic machine. However, drilling in hard rock, such as granite and marble, was successfully carried out using the Hydraulic machine.
UDS (undisturbed soil Sample)
Undisturbed soil samples were collected during the borehole investigation using a steel tube of 3-inch diameter and 450 mm height. These samples were taken for laboratory testing to determine the soil density and to evaluate the cohesion (C) and angle of internal friction (Ļ) values through the direct shear test
Standard Penetration Test (SPT)
The Standard Penetration Test is one of the most widely used in-situ soil investigation methods to determine the strength and density of soil below the ground surface. The sampler is driven into the soil by a 63.5 kg hammer falling from a height of 750 mm. The number of blows required to drive the sampler for three consecutive 150 mm penetrations is recorded. The first 150 mm is considered seating, and the total blows for the next 300 mm penetration is reported as the SPT āNā Value.
Rock Core Sampling
is a vital geotechnical method used to obtain continuous, cylindrical sections of rock from beneath the ground. It provides direct information about rock quality, strength, fractures, joints, and weathering. The recovered cores are logged, tested, and analyzed to assess Rock Quality Designation (RQD) and other engineering properties. This data is crucial for designing safe and economical foundations for dams, tunnels, bridges, and high-rise structures
